The common goals, in numbers

A 3:00 marathon requires 4:16 /km (6:52 /mi). 3:30 means 4:59 /km (8:01 /mi). The most-chased barrier, sub-4:00, works out to 5:41 /km (9:09 /mi) — hold anything faster and the wall does the negotiating for you. 4:30 is 6:24 /km (10:18 /mi), and a 5:00 marathon is 7:07 /km (11:27 /mi). Every 5-minute goal between 2:30 and 6:30 is listed in the marathon pace chart.

One honest coaching note: almost nobody runs a perfectly even marathon. Most successful races bank nothing — they run the first half at goal pace or a touch slower and negative-split the second. Use the halfway time from your splits as the checkpoint that tells you whether the day is on.
